Description
A photographic trip specifically aimed at nature photographers centred on the birds of the drylands of Lleida and the surrounding area, especially the Little Bustard. The uncultivated margins and the dryland crops of the Terres de Lleida, the steppes, are one of the most unique habitats in Catalonia and almost certainly one of the least known. They are inhabited by plant and animal species which are absent or very scarce outside the Iberian Peninsula. The drylands of Lleida are remarkably bird-rich, both for the number of breeding species as well as the fact that there are a series of species with a limited distribution in Europe. The target species have a whole series of physiological and behavioural adaptations which enable them to optimise the use of the resources in this poorly productive and seasonal environment. Gregariousness, crepuscular activity, extensive movements and cryptic coloration are some of such adaptations. These birds belong to this environment and cannot be found anywhere else. |
